Millers Falls #214 Saw Set

I have recently started to dabble in saw sharpening.  I went to grab my Millers Falls #214 saw set to give it a try, but I had forgotten how beat up it was.  So I decided it needed to be cleaned up before I could use it.

This saw set was introduced in the 1938 catalog.

By the 1949 catalog, they were being painted grey/red.

I have seen several examples of the steel guide being L shaped in both colors.  I think that in use that might be the more preferable style but I need to find one before I can test that theory.

The disassembly was fairly straight forward.  There was one pin holding the handle and another keeping the spring under pressure.  There were also 2 small set screws buried in hole for the screw that attaches the steel guide to the body.  I think they keep the plunger aligned.

Here is a picture of the saw set disassembled, evaporusted, and wire wheeled.

The plated parts cleaned up nice.  The black painted parts got a couple of coats of black enamel spray paint.
